Easy Cleaning for the Holidays and Everyday

About 18 years ago, I started frequenting  The Homeschooler’s Curriculum Swap.   Members share not only about homeschooling, but also about managing our homes.  At one point an item that was spoken of, often, was the Sh-mop.
It’s used for mopping floors in a more sanitary way than a regular mop.  I bought one and  liked it so much, I bought more and gave them out as Christmas presents.
The Sh-mop has a rectangular base that pivots 360 degrees for easy maneuvering in difficult-to-reach areas---like under furniture. There are two types of Sh-mop covers:  Those for dry Sh-mopping (Dusting the floor and picking up those minute bits of dirt and dust that a broom often misses) are made of a microfiber and called Sh-Micro. For wet Sh-mopping, which I’ll share about later, there are terry cloth covers called Sh-Wipes.
Now, my kids prefer to  use our Dyson vacuum cleaner prior to wet Sh-mopping  (it saves a step because they also use the vacuum for vacuuming the couches and other pieces of furniture).  We have used Dyson products for years and have been pleased.  An interesting observation I’ve made about Dyson products:  I’ve never seen them in thrift stores like I do other brands of vacuums.  That tells me they are so good that people aren’t getting rid of them.  Through Cyber Monday,  Amazon is having a 25% off sale on select Dyson products so you may want to check that out if you are in the market for a vacuum cleaner.
To wet Sh-mop, one simply dampens a terry cloth Sh-mop covers with water, rings it out and then places it over the base.  As a cleaning product, we  mix Young Living Essential Oils Thieves Household Cleaner (It’s a natural cleaning product…no nasty chemicals) in a spray bottle with water, spray the mixture on our tile floor and start Sh-mopping.  (Please remember to use a cleaning product that is appropriate for your kind of flooring)
As a side note…When it comes to spot cleaning, I’ve been known to put one of the terry cloth covers on my foot, spray the dirty area with Young Living Essential Oils Thieves Household Cleaner mixed with water and then wipe up the mess.
Clean-up of the cloth covers is easy and sanitary.  We simply remove the cover and toss it into the hamper to be washed with a load of laundry.  Cleaning your floors this way removes the process of dunking a mop into a bucket of dirty water, for rinsing, and then reapplying the dirt from the water onto your floor. No more puddles of water that you or others in your household may slip on.  Another plus…replacement covers can be ordered as needed and I’ll be ordering more, tomorrow, Cyber Monday.
Hopefully, what I’ve shared can help make the cleaning process simpler at your house.  While cleaning can be therapeutic to some people, no one wants to be a slave to it.

  1. Before hearing of the Sh-Mop, I tossed a handful of water on the floor and wiped it up with a hand towel that needed to go to the wash. I'd have to this at least daily due to in-home daycare and husband that didn't 'make-it'. I now use a mop that's similar and have 3 washable heads. One's for dusting, never used yet, two for mopping.

    1. I'm so glad you found a way to ease the cleaning duties, Grace Harbor. With so much responsibility, I'm sure you were thankful. :-)

  2. Thanks for sharing this. I'd never heard of a Sh-Mop and I can never seem to find a good, quality mop.
